Driving in Spain

Spanish law requires you to have the following items in your car at all times.

Two Red Warning Triangles: These should be placed approximately 30m in front of and behind a vehicle in the event of an accident or breakdown.

High Visibility Vests: You should have as many vests as there are seats in your car. Thes must be kept in your car (not in the boot) and they must be worn any time the car is stopped beside a main road in the event of an accident or breakdown.

Spare bulbs: You must carry a spare set of bulbs for all the lights in the car and a tool set so that you can replace them.

Spectacles: If you wear glasses to drive you must carry a spare set in the car with you at all times.

Certain other items that are not obligatory, but which you may wish to keep in your car are a first aid kit and a fire extinguisher or snow chains if you travel on certain roads at winter.

As in the UK all passengers are required to wear a seat belt at all times and the use of mobile phones whilst driving is only permitted if you use a hands free kit.
