If your home was burgled or damaged by fire or theft would you be able to remember all the belongings and valuables that you have collected over the years?

Although we hope that you never experience a fire, theft or damage to your belongings, if this were to happen we want to ensure that the process is easy for you.

Making an inventory of all the valuables in your home will ensure that your claim is faster it will also help you to select the the correct amount of insurance when you purchase your cover. This doesn't have to be a drawn out task, there are a number of ways you can put your inventory together.

Take Photos - Go from room to room and take photos of all your possessions, remembering to take photos of inside cupboards, in the attic etc, these will also be a valuable source of evidence should you need to make a claim.

Make a list- If you have the time, make a list and continuously add to it over time, it is also wise to keep the receipts for all your belongings as these will also come in handy if you ever need to claim.

How to store the list - Make sure you keep a number of copies of your list. If you have created an electronic list don't just store it on your own personal computer, send your list to a friend or store it in your own personal emails such Google Mail or Hotmail so in the case of your PC being stolen you still have access to them. If you create a hard copy ask a friend or relative to keep a copy for you, you can then of course return the favour for them.
