Two penalty notices for dog fouling, five fines for non registration

08-May-2018

Two fixed penalty notices have so far been issued for dog fouling as a result of DNA testing. One was paid, with the other person taken to court for non payment and handed a £350 fine.

In answer to GBC questions the Government says it is apparent that responsible dog owners are co-operating and cleaning up after their pets. They add around 60 additional samples have been sent for testing and say any owners identified will also be fined.

A Government spokesperson told GBC the emphasis is now being placed on identifying people who have not correctly registered their dogs, with around 300 owners approached to check documentation, and five of them fined. During the last week of this month the Environment department together with the Environmental Agency will be launching an initiative to ensure the dogs of Gibraltar are properly registered. In the meantime, members of the public are encouraged to report dog fouling hotspots so that these can be monitored.

The fine for dog fouling is £400 with the penalty for not registering, licensing or vaccinating a dog standing at £1,000.
