There is many a sound reason for expats to search for a competitive Portugal motor insurance policy so that they can swiftly get on with discovering some of the country's many fine attractions and activities - one of which is most certainly golf. Indeed, Portugal recently won two awards for the quality of its golf courses, with the Algarve a particular draw for those looking to tee off.

It was at the first edition of the World Golf Awards that Portugal was crowned both the 'best golf destination in Europe' and the 'best golf destination in the world'. Accepting the awards at a packed ceremony at the Hotel Conrad Algarve at the Quinta do Lago golf resort was the head of the Algarve Tourist Board, Desiderio Silva, who said that the region's courses were integral to winning Portugal both gongs.

Silva commented that it was "a great privilege to receive, on behalf of the country, two such important awards in the golf market, even more so as the Algarve's courses were crucial in this choice." He added that the awards and associated publicity would "certainly be useful for national tourism, and in particular Algarve tourism for golf, a vital product for the tourism sector".

Integrated into the World Travel Awards that have been running since 1993, the inaugural World Golf Awards were hosted by well-known sports journalist Steve Rider. Other winners during the event included St Andrews Links, Old Course, which was deemed the World's Best Golf Course, while the accolade of World's Best New Golf Course was claimed by The Els Club Teluk Datai.

For many of those in attendance, however, this year's event unquestionably belonged to Portugal, and not just because of the choice of venue. World Golf Awards managing director Chris Frost stated: "Tonight has been a tremendous success and it has been an honour to welcome so many key players from the global golf hospitality industry here to Conrad Algarve for this inaugural Gala Ceremony."

"My congratulations go out to all our winners, this is recognition you so richly deserve. This is just the start of the journey for World Golf Awards. We will return to Conrad Algarve next year for the Gala Ceremony 2015 and I look forward to greeting many of our nominees from this evening in 12 months' time."

The awards presentation was part of a three-day itinerary that gave guests the perfect opportunity to enjoy some of the Quinta do Lago Resort. This is a course that is well known to Ibex customers of the nearby Almancil office who have taken advantage of Ibex Insurance’s well priced and comprehensive Portugal motor insurance.
